The network aims at shaping the European research in the area of device, network and service management to provide the necessary coordination and integration so as to enable the participants, while maintaining and enhancing their excellence in their respective field, to contribute in a unified way to the design of management solutions covering all of the challenges arising in this field. As a community of excellence, the network is designed to disseminate its knowledge. Therefore, the specific research actions are complemented by common teaching platforms such as distributed virtual laboratories, shared repositories of measurement data and shared teaching materials. Virtual laboratories and shared data repositories will enable participants to validate new concepts and algorithms in many different scenarios with affordable costs. Shared teaching materials and mobility of teachers will be the basis to improve the education of students in this field. Online tutorials provided through a central information access point will help operators to get acquainted to new technologies and approaches and open source reference implementations will help to transfer research results into industrial products. Finally, standardization, key to fostering the acceptance and ensuring long term survivability of the European technologies in the area of network and service management is of particular importance to the network of excellence.

European Network of Excellence for the Management of Internet Technologies and Complex Services EMANICS is a Network of Excellence supported by the European Commission Information Society Technologies 6th Framework Program. The network brings together 13 of the best research teams across Europe in the discipline of network and service management.

EMANICS addresses the scalability, dynamics, security and automation challenges that emerge towards the management plane of the future Internet and complex services running on top of it.

Its main objective is to extend the European leadership and expertise in the area of the network and service management plane, critical to every network.

Research integration is achieved within the project through both the joined establishment of a common vision of major challenges in the discipline, complemented with specific targeted joint research actions addressing the following management themes:

  • Management Foundations
  • Management Technologies
  • Management Applications
