Phase 1

WP4 is intended to design and implement the procedures and the overall infrastructure for electronic cooperation and knowledge dissemination within as well as outside the EMANICS Network of Excellence.

Tasks

T4.1: EMANICS Web site

The ultimate goal is to become the leading web site for Internet management worldwide, and to keep the site operational after the end of the NoE.

This task is currently structured into the following activities:

  • Web and collaboration services: Intended to design, host and maintain the web site
  • Podcasting: Intended to explot this technology for dissemination in the network and services management contexts
  • Content integration: Intended to do the initial steps providing content to be disseminated through the web
  • Specification and guidelines: Intended to consolidate the provision of content from the local dissemination environments

T4.2: EMANICS Newsletter

The EMANICS newsletter is distributed through the web site as well as via subscription on a quarterly basis. It is public, therefore not only Emanics members but also third parties will be informed on the ongoing Emanics research, new publications and upcoming events.

Phase 2

Objectives

This work-package has three objectives:

  • Maintenance and consolidation of the existing dissemination and cooperation environment reached at the end of Phase I, at month 18 from the start of project
  • Extension of the span of dissemination and new promotion activities. Supported by the EMANICS site, other web sites and other dissemination media (i.e., podcasts) but targeting the public in general
  • Enhancement of the collaboration environment. Supported by the EMANICS site and other platforms but targeting the EMANICS participants only

Description of work

The work within this work-package is structured around three tasks, each task covering one objective:

T4.1: Maintenance and consolidation

  • Consolidation of a QoS Management portal intended to disseminate network and service management techniques driven by QoS objectives.
  • Consolidation of integration of local dissemination workflows. The initial steps will consist of collecting and organizing information from partners concerning Ph.D. thesis, papers, and projects.
  • Maintenance of EMANICS and SimpleWeb sites. Administration tasks on a daily basis and continuing working on extending the site with additional dissemination and collaboration tools. Maintenance of the sites includes the servers, the services and also the update of content structures available at the end of Phase I.
  • Maintenance of other service/tools.
  • EMANICS newsletter consisting of 3 Newsletters per year including research oriented content.

T4.2: Extended dissemination and promotion

  • Creation of other Network and Service Management portals. Based on the experience obtained at the end of Phase I, other web portals will be promoted to disseminate network and service management technologies.
  • Creation and integration of other types of content. This includes but is not restricted to Exam Cram type of questionnaires, online courses, Wikipedia enhancement with Network and Service Management related content, etc.
  • Dissemination through other media. Extension of the RSS feeds with Atoms (and maybe RDF); experimentation with video podcasts (VodCasts).
  • Improving the visibility of the EMANICS site. This aims at finding, testing and implementing many techniques of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and monitoring the results by available tools.
  • Production of promotional / informational material of the EMANICS NoE (flyers, posters, …).T4.3: Enhanced collaboration environment
  • Implementation of different Wiki-based collaborative environments. Envisaged are one as a Joomla module and another one in the SimpleWeb. The apparent administration, security and reliability concerns that could potentially arise will be studied and tackled.
  • Collaboration database. Consisting of an on-line database of people with their activities. The database can be extended with more sophisticated tools for collaboration like Skype and Skypecasts, forums, blogs etc. It should be agreed among partners what data will be made available for public access and what for private use only.

Phase3

Objectives

This work-package has three objectives:

  • Maintenance and consolidation of the existing dissemination and cooperation environment reached at the end of Phase 2, at month 36 from the start of project
  • Extension of the existing dissemination content and promotion of EMANICS in particular and network and service management in general
  • To assure continuity to the promotion and dissemination activities on network and service management after the completion of the project

Description of work

The work within this work package is structured around three tasks, each one covering each objective:

T4.1 : Maintenance and consolidation of web sites and collaboration environment

  • Maintenance of EMANICS and the Simpleweb sites. Maintenance of the sites includes the servers, the services and also the update of content structures available at the end of Phase 2
  • Maintenance of other service/tools like the funding application tool
  • Continue the publication of the EMANICS newsletter consisting of 2/3 newsletters during 2009
  • EMANICS web Secretariat
    • Tracking all interesting news in the network and beyond making sure all these news are posted on a weekly basis on the Emanics web site
    • Tracking all papers published by partners, making sure they are uploaded - Reorganizing the current content on News, and events to have a clearer and easier way to browse these contents- Tracking the update process of the PhDs database
    • Updating and maintaining the directory of all Emanics participants- Creating a directory of currently open projects in EMANICS- General surveillance of the shape and content in the Emanics web site

T4.2: Extention of dissemination content & promotion

  • Promotion of Emanics in particular and network and service management in general through Wikipedia
  • Reshaping of the Simpleweb portal as a means to have a higher impact worldwide
  • Creation of new podcasts on the most relevant events that took place in 2008 like NOMS, MANWEEK and AIMS or may take place in 2009
  • Creation of a new tutorial podcast on network management. A potential candidate is for the SNMP protocol
  • Updating and moving the current network and service management portal from its current site to the Emanics site or to the Simpleweb

T4.3 Transition to the post-Emanics phase

The idea of this task is to create a website which will contain the content of the current Emancis site that makes sense to be maintained after the completion of the project. Also, to facilitate an open maintenance of this site by people currently engaged in Emanics. This task will consist of the following activities :

  • Definition of the layout of the new website
  • Definition of the content of the current Emanics site to be copied to the new site and population of the new site with this content
  • Definition of a maintenance strategy after project completion
